1604-CS : Security

Security is another of the main system functions. The LCP module and a suitable user interface switch must be used if security alarm features are required.

  • LCP Module. This provides multiple circuits of directly controlled lighting and multiple circuits of indirectly controlled lighting. It includes full security alarm and access control functions and is networked with other LCP modules, user interface switches and other special function modules.

Each LCP provides the equivalent of 4 alarm zone inputs. Zone 1 is normally connected to a PIR detector in the room. Zones 2 through 4 are available for various other functions.

Each LCP can of operated as a separate alarm system or be combined with other LCPs to form a larger system. When used as part of a larger system, each LCP can still be individually configured. This also allows a larger alarm system to be partitioned or operated as a number of smaller systems.

The alarm system can be set (armed) in one of 3 modes:

  • Home Mode. This allows only part of the system to be set. Usually bedrooms and hallways are left off. Used at night to protect unoccupied parts of the building.

  • Away Mode. This is used to set all of the system. Used during the day or whenever the building is unoccupied.
  • Holiday Mode. In conjunction with other modules, this allows the system to adjust the environment when the building is to be un-occupied for some time.

The alarm system can be controlled by code entry, a Dallas touch key or similar security identity device, or a remote control. A combination is also possible; code and Dallas touch key fr example.

Each LCP is capable of driving an alarm output module. This will control local sirens and strobe lights and a door lock. The LCPs report alarms via the network to each other and to the satellite alarm and master controller (if installed).

The satellite alarm and master controller monitor the network for faults and tampering, increasing the security of the system. Any network cable that leaves the secured area passes through a protection device. This prevents tampering from outside.
